Built in the XII-XIII c., after a period of trouble, reason why it was not completed, this abbey welcomed the Franciscans at the end of 1500 and they remained there until the 18th century, so in 1798 it passed to the barons Zambra of Chieti, who turned it into a noble residence, enriching it with style doors and windows and with a garden. The original chapter house, stands out within it, as a unique example in Abruzzo. It is divided into four bays of arches resting on a central pillar. It represents an important model of Burgundian-Cistercian architecture in Abruzzo.
